Reed City golfers prepare for Big Rapids event

REED CITY – Reed City’s boys golf team will be preparing this week for the Big Rapids Cardinal Invitational at Katke Golf Course.

Last Tuesday, Reed City played in the CSAA championship at Cedar Chase Golf Course in Cedar Springs.

“We finished second overall as team and finished second overall for the league behind Big Rapids,” Reed City coach Chris Hansen said. “We were pretty consistent in league matches this year in finishing second in all of them so I’m very happy with that compared to past years. Congratulations to coach (Mark) Posey and the team at Big Rapids on their season.”

Fischer Morrison finished third individually for Reed City. Nick Wirgau was 13th and Isiah Zelinski was 26th.

“For the overall league play Fischer Morrison was second and Nick Wirgau was sixth,” Hanson said. “They both received medals and all-conference honors. Micheal Perri finished 15th overall to receive honorable mention all-conference.

“Again I was very pleased with how the season went. I saw a lot of improvements over the last few months. We worked on a lot of new shots and techniques this season and it’s showing up in the play. We will continue to grow and get better. It’s a fairly young group so I’m looking forward to seeing what’s to come.”

After the Big Rapids Invitational, Reed City competes in regionals on June 2 at Boyne Mountain.
