REED CITY — Reed City opened its boys golf season Monday at Spring Valley Golf Course and tied for second in the three-team event.

“The kids just haven’t had an opportunity to get out and play,” Reed City coach Todd Dew said. “They went into spring break. For most members on all three teams, tonight was some of the first holes they played all year.”

Farwell was first at 182. Clarke and Reed City tied at 185.

Tom Clark and Jared McKellar both had 42s to lead Reed City

“I expect those two to shoot much lower as the season progresses,” Dew said “It’s still muddy out there and the greens haven’t been cut.”

Matt Kienitz shot a 47, “which was pretty good for us,” Dew said. “It was awfully windy and chilly. Compared to what we’ve been dealing with like snowstorms and everything else, it wasn’t bad.”

Reed City plays at St. Ives on Thursday.

“It’s always one of the biggest matches of the season,” Dew said. “We won it two years ago and would like to send out some of the seniors on the same note.’’
