REED CITY – Fischer Morrison’s high school golf career at Reed City is into its final weeks and the Coyote golfer is excited over his potential.

He’s been the top player on a Reed City team which has been a strong second to Big Rapids in Central State Activities Gold Division jamborees all season.

One of his top moments was taking first at the Lake City Invitational with a round of one under, 70.

“A few weeks back, I won at Brookside with a round of 77,” Morrison said. “St. Ives, I won in match play.”

The strength of his golf this year “has been my irons,” he said. “My irons and putting have been really good. Tee shots, I’m working at them.”

The regionals are coming up soon in Division 3 and Morrison hopes to qualify for the state meet and finish in the top 20. The CSAA title meet is Tuesday at Cedar Chase Golf Course.

The poor weather in April has obviously had an impact on the season.

But its been a solid career for Morrison who has focused his sports career on golf. He’s not done with the sport.

“I’m going to Ferris for the PGA golf management program and I got invited for a walk-on tryout for the team,” Morrison said. “I had another (collegiate offer) but I declined it.”

CSAA UPDATE

The Central State Activities Association boys golf title is nearly in Big Rapids’ grasp.

The conference tournament was to be on Tuesday May 17 at Cedar Chase Golf Course but Big Rapids took another major step to secure the crown by winning Wednesday’s jamboree at Brookside Golf Course near Gowen.

Big Rapids got a pair of 78s from Luke Welch and Kyle Schroeder and a team score of 320 to beat second place Reed City at 349.

“I thought our boys played well today considering how hard the course played,” Big Rapids coach Mark Posey said. “We did a nice job of thinking our way through the course and staying out of trouble.”

Other scorers for Big Rapids were Preston Younge (82), Jack Ruggles (82), Brendan Pippin (89) and Zachary Steers (93).

Scores for Reed City were Fischer Morrison (78), Michael Perri (89), Nick Wirgau (89), Evan Pullen (93) and Ty Kailing (95).
