Reed City golfer looking ahead to his junior season

REED CITY — Seth Phelps completed his sophomore season with the Reed City golf team and is looking to make plenty of improvements during his summer play.

He’s had 1 1/2 years of varsity golf and said as a sophomore, he improved “quite a bit, in all areas.”

His best score during 2016 was 98. He was looking to break 90 late in the season.

“I have to practice my driving and work on my chipping,” Phelps said. “I play a lot of golf year round.”

Putting has been the strongest part of his game.

The Coyotes didn’t advance past the districts this season, but still showed some improvement.

“Last year, we were that team that no one looked at,” Phelps said. “But this year, we’ve improved quite a bit. Next year, it should be way better. We should show a lot of improvement.”

Phelps also plays soccer.

“I would say golf would be more challenging,” he said. “You have to work a lot on eye contact.”
