REED CITY  — Spencer Mund is among the Reed City golfers looking to play a key role in the team’s fortunes this season.

It’s his third year of high school golf and second on the varsity.

“Highlights from last year are just having fun on the course,” he said.

His best score was around 100 for 18 holes.

“Hopefully below 100 would be my goal” for this season, Mund said. “I need to eliminate my bad strokes, trying to stay out of the woods.”

During the summer, Mund spent plenty of time on the course.

“During the winter months,I went to an indoor driving space range,” Mund said.

For this season, Mund would like to average 95 for 18 holes. “I need to keep my head in the game and make sure I make good strokes and good shots,” Mund said.

It’s still relatively early in the season and the Coyotes, like other golf teams, had limited time in getting on the course. Mund, prior to spring break, figured it would take three rounds to get into good golfing form.

“It think we’re going to be pretty good,” Mund said. “We have a pretty big pool of guys to choose from. We’ve got talent that came up from the freshmen.”

The golf team is scheduled to play at  the Royal in Canadian Lakes on Wednesday at Big Rapids next Tuesday. They also play May 8 at the Lake Isabella Pines.
