Reed City golfer advances to regionals

REED CITY — Jacob Green will be continuing Reed City’s golf season for at least one more round.

Green was the only Coyote to shoot a low enough score at the Division 3 districts Thursday at Linkside Links in Ludington to qualify for the regional round this week.

Green shot an 88 and will play Wednesday in the regionals at Eagle Glen Golf Course in Farwell.

The Coyotes did not make it as a team. Their score was 388. Spencer Battle, a top golfer for Reed City, struggled and shot a 105. Other golfers for the Coyotes, Colt Start and Kaden Phelps also were unable to qualify for regionals.

Green planned on playing a practice round at Eagle Glen on Tuesday to get ready for Wednesday.

“He practiced on Friday right after school, “ Reed City coach Katrina Wray said. “He was going to try to practice as much as he can. We’ll go back on Tuesday and I’ll be over there on Wednesday and see how he does. He’s definitely been putting his time in.”

Green is a senior who will be playing at regionals for his first time. If he shoots a low enough score, he will qualify for the Division 3 state finals June 6-7 at the Meadows Golf Course at Grand Valley State University.

Meanwhile, the Central State Activities Association season came to an end May 20 at Cedar Chase Golf Course near Cedar Springs in the league meet.

Earning honorable mention laurels were Reed City’s Battle (394), Green (400) and Colt Start (400).
