Reed City goalie reflects on season

REED CITY — Silas Schultz had a unique soccer season for the Reed City Coyotes.

Schultz was goalkeeper for most of the season for Reed City.

“I played soccer my whole life, since I was about 5 years old,” Schultz, a senior, said. “I played my freshman, sophomore and junior years. This is my first year playing goalkeeper. I played up top as a striker.”

Because Reed City came into the season without a keeper, Schultz volunteered.

“I was goalkeeper in AYSO, so I decided to try to do it,” he said. “It’s going good. You just have to know what you can do. I feel my strengths are punting and passing it to my teammates.”

Throughout the season, one of the keys to success, Schultz indicated was “our defense needs to come down a little tighter.”

Reed City coach Doug Emington praised Schultz’ efforts after various contests indicating his senior keeper was able to keep the Coyotes in the game and keep the score tighter with his performances several times.
