Reed City girls track team enjoys success

KENT CITY — Reed City's girls were third in their division of the Kent City Invitational on Friday.

The Coyotes had 37 points.

For Reed City girls, Hannah Boza won the discus (104-11) and was seventh in the shot put (29-3 1/4), Emily Libey was third (14.06) in the 100 meters.

Libey was also seventh (29.53) in the 200 and on the 400-meter relay team that was fifth (55.55) and the 800 relay which was sixth (1:59.67). The other runners are Meghan Borst, Janelle Straathoff and Carmen Guy. Faith Woods was ninth in long jump (13-11).

“Times might not be that great yet but there was some pretty strong headwind,” Reed City coach Brent Michell said. “Every race went into that headwind. They competed really well.”

Michell said the boys continue to improve but he has a very young team this season.

Pine River track team

The Pine River varsity track squads competed at the Kent City Invitational. There were 19 teams were in attendance.

Elijah Lewis had a strong night, taking first in the long jump (20-4), second in the 200 meters (23.61) and third in the 400 meters (52.86).

For the girls, Logan Powell ran a personal best in the 400 meters (1:04.55) to place second and finished fourth in the 200 meter (28.91). She was also a member of the third-place 800-meter relay team (1:57.55) with Summer Jackson, Anna Lindquist and Becca Horan as well as the fourth-place 1,600-meter relay team (4:30.55) with Grace Beebe, Lindquist, and Horan.

Lindquist was fourth in the pole vault (8-6). Selma Barnett and Kelsi Charles had a good night in the distance events. They both ran season best times in the 3,200 meters, Pine River coach Eric Gebhard said.
