Reed City girls soccer team falls to Lakeview

REED CITY — Lakeview took care of the scoring in the first half and held back Reed City for a 2-0 Central State Activities Association girls soccer victory on Monday.

Sophomore Tricia Beckett scored for Lakeview midway through the first half for the 1-0 lead. She later added her second goal and that would be the scoring for the rest of the night.

“We played a much stronger second half,” said Reed City coach Bryan Hall. “We didn’t seem to be in the game in the first half. In the second half, we put together some good scoring chances. We couldn’t get one to go in. But we were trying a lot harder than we did in the first half.”

Reed City falls to 0-2-1. The Coyotes had tied Hart 1-1 at home on Thursday. Liza Emington, a sophomore, scored the only goal for Reed City in that game and the only one so far this season.

“We don’t have as strong of a defense as we normally have in front of our keeper,” Hall said. “We haven’t had too many games yet.”

Brenna Westhoff was the goalkeeper for Reed City. She’s a sophomore and first-year varsity player.

“She played a couple of games last year and we haven’t had time to train on the big goals,” Hall said. “We’re relying on her athleticism to hold us in there until we get some more training and a little used to being in there.”

Both teams battled some rain during the contest.

“We’re still working at trying to get the right positions set up,” Hall said. “We have several different people involved (in scoring chances) which is what I expected. The rain didn’t slow us down there.”

Reed City is at Big Rapids Wednesday for a varsity only start at 4:30 p.m. Reed City also plays Saturday at Ludington.
