Reed City girls set for district
REED CITY -- The regular season has ended, and now the Reed City Coyote girls basketball team will focus on a competitive Division 2 tournament at Cadillac this week.
On Friday, Reed City fell 48-22 at Newaygo. The Coyotes had lost on Feb. 5 to Central Montcalm 57-45. The Coyotes ended the CSAA Gold at 3-11 and were 4-16 overall.
"Against Newaygo, we had trouble putting the ball in the bucket," Reed City coach Tim Beilfuss said. "That's been a major issue we've had lately. We played fairly well defensively. Right now, we're having problems putting the ball in the bucket."
Against Central, "we had a game plan for districts the last week and a half," Beilfuss said. "We wanted to try some new things out. They went on a run in the end of the third quarter and made three threes in five possessions. We struggled a little bit. We put up a few more points on Tuesday. We have to be a little more consistent. Right now, we're not doing the little things we need to.
"We need almost everything to go right in a game for us."
Against Central Montcalm, Christina Malackanich had 15 points and Taylor Harrison had 10. Harrison had nine points against Newaygo.
Reed City plays Cadillac or Ludington on Wednesday at Cadillac for a district semifinal.
"We've got game plans in for both teams right now," Beilfuss said.
