MANISTEE -- Reed City's cross country team had a strong showing at the Grabowski Invite at Manistee High School on Thursday.

The girls team finished in second-place overall with Abbigail Kiaunis (20:33.57) finishing first overall and Taylor Harrison third (21:59.16).

For the boys, Calvin Rohde (17:37.7) also was the overall winner and the team finished in seventh.

"Abbi and Calvin both ran excellent races," Reed City coach Rich Saladin said. "Abbi started pulling away just before the mile mark and just ran away from everyone. She looked really strong. Taylor made a big push in mile three to secure a solid third-place finish against some tough competition. Overall, we had eight girls finish in the top 27 and earned a medal (top 40). Freshman Nora Smoes really ran well today for us as our No. 1 finisher.

"We ran on Tuesday in a conference meet and our legs were a little tired but I was extremely impressed with the effort. We need to rest up over the weekend, get in a light workout on Monday, and be ready to compete on Tuesday (at Chip Hills). Our girls have a chance at a conference championship while Abbi, Taylor, Paige, Calvin, and Jared all have an opportunity at all-conference awards."

Reed City's middle school program also competed at Manistee. The boys finished first overall with Ryan Allen and Anthony Kiaunis leading the way. The girls finished second led by Casey Terryn and Malley Terryn. All 14 middle school runners (boys and girls) won medals for finishing in the top 30.
