Reed City girls post first win of the season 61-60

REED CITY -- Tri County (1-2, 3-3) fired out to a quick start but could not hold back a strong comeback by Reed City (1-2, 1-5) on Friday in girls basketball action.

Alaina Stein's 3-pointer with 8.8 seconds to play lifted Reed City to its first win of the season 61-60.

The Central State Activities Association battle was the first game of the New Year for the Coyotes.

"For us to come back and put 61, that's a huge difference for this program," Reed City coach Tim Beilfuss said.

Paige Williams scored for the Coyotes late in quarter to cut the lead to 14-6.

It was 16-6 going into the second.

Paige Lofquist hit a triple early in the second to cut the T-C lead to 18-9. The Vikings went on a run, fueled by Alicia Bowen's 3-pointer.

Taylor Harrison had a 3-point play to cut the gap moments later.

Lofquist's 3-pointer with 3:10 left in the second cut T-C's lead to 31-20. Alison Duddles followed with a putback moments later. Mary Siple's triple gave Tri County a 36-24 lead late in the half. The Coyotes came back and trailed only 36-28 at halftime

The Vikings struggled offensively early in the third quarter and Reed City took advantage.

Lofquist scored at 5:30 of the third to cut the TC lead to 38-32. Williams' triple cut it to 38-35. Lofquist had a triple moments later and the TC edge was 40-38. The Vikings came back with two straight baskets. But Lofquist hit two straight of her own and it was 44-42. it was 44-43, Vikings, going into the fourth.

The Vikings also started incurring foul trouble.

Alexis Standhart opened the fourth with a basket. But Reed City went an 8-0 run and Lofquist's basket made it 48-46, Coyotes.

All the momentum was on the home team's side Vandawater's free throw made it 52-46.

Jayna Kailing's 3-pointer gave Reed City at 55-50 lead midway through the quarter. Duddles scored inside for a 57-54 lead.

Bowen fouled out for TC with 1:48 to play.

Both teams had key turnovers down the stretch.

Myers' layup for TC tied the game 57-57 with 1:03 to play. Siple hit two free throws with 55 seconds to play for a 59-57 lead. But Siple fouled out against Taylor Harrison who hit a free throw with 39 seconds to play.

Vandawater fouled out for Reed city moments later. Myers hit a free throw for the Vikings to make it 60-58.

Stein sank her three-pointer with 8.8 seconds to play.

Tri County turned the ball over to preserve the win for the Coyotes.

Reed City had seven 3-pointers. Lofquist had 20 points and three triples while Harrison had 15, and Vandawater eight. Bialek had 18 for TC.

Reed City is at Big Rapids on Friday.
