Reed City girls pay back Pine River with sweep
LEROY — The tables were turned last week when Reed City and Pine River softball teams met for one last time in the Local Area Teams (LAT) League this summer.
Reed City posted 11-1 and 16-11 victories on July 15. The Rage had lost a twinbill to Pine River the previous Tuesday.
In the first game, Maddie Morgan picked up the win, striking out four and allowing one run, six hits and four walks. Lindsey Greer had two hits while Skiler Brigham, Allie Hobbs and Taylor Cutler were among the top hitters for Reed City.
For Pine River, Kourtney Brock went four innings, allowing five hits and fanning two. Dana Hill pitched one inning.
Carleigh Trowbridge had two singles and a double while Chelsey TerBurgh added two singles and Courtney Smith had a single and an RBI.
“We were missing a couple of girls that are playing travel ball and are gone to practices Tuesday night,” said Pine River coach Laura Mumby.
Morgan also was the winning pitcher in the second game.
She fanned four batters and allowed five hits and 11 walks.
Ally Yarger and Amy Squires had two hits each for Reed City while Greer, Devin Willard and Rikki Saez all had one hit.
“It’s pretty amazing how these girls have come along,” said Reed City coach Roger Steig. “Last week, Pine River mercied us twice. (Tuesday), we stayed on top of them all night.”
Smith took the loss in the second game, allowing no hits but walking eight and striking out five. Hill pitched the final three innings, allowing six hits and five walks.
TerBurgh had two singles while Jenna Johnson and Smith had one single each.
