Reed City girls fall in district title game

LEROY — Reed City lost to Manistee 6-3 in the title game of the Division 3 district softball tournament Saturday at Pine River.

The Coyotes opened the tournament with a 13-2 win over Pine River. Jules Griffin went all seven innings, allowing six hits, striking out five and walking two. Jordyn Storch had three hits, while Devin Willard and Olivia Lawson had two hits and Kamryn Myers and Ally Yarger had one hit.

Against Manistee, Griffin went all seven innings, allowing one earned run and striking out one while walking none.

Sidni Rushford and Willard had one hit.

Reed City ended its season at 19-20.

“Jules Griffin had a solid day on the mound,” Reed City coach Roger Steig said. “In 14 innings, she gave up just one earned run. Our whole team played outstanding. Pine River is a good hitting club and we kept them in check.

“Then we got to Manistee, playing back to back. They got five runs on us in the first inning. We had some key errors that led to those runs. That was the only lapse we had all day. Manistee is a quality team. Five runs in the first inning was too much for us to come back from. You have to play 14 innings and we only played 13.

“Devin Willard had an outstanding day in both games. All of our girls played outstanding ball. We just came up short. I’m proud of what they accomplished this year.”
