Reed City girls basketball participates in team event at Frankfort

REED CITY — It was Frankfort week for the Reed City girls basketball team.

Coach Brian Koopman and the Coyotes are in the middle of the summer workouts and spent this past Monday and Tuesday at Frankfort in a team camp.

The Coyotes have a scrimmage Tuesday, June 26 at home against McBain. The summer wraps up with varsity and JV team camps July 10 and 11 at Tawas.

“We’re actually playing really well,” Koopman said on Monday. “We’re 3-0 today. We beat Glen Lake to start out with. I think it’s a pretty good camp. You have a good mixture of schools. You have some schools from down south. You have some schools like Traverse City Central and West.”

The Coyotes are basically focusing on familiar systems, said Koopman, who has some key players back from his 2011-12 team including Emma Lockhart and Kalee Hensel.

“It’s pretty much what we did last year,” Koopman said. “We’re trying to get the young kids up to speed on what we do offensively and defensively. We’re trying to figure out where they fit in and what positions they’ll play.”
