Reed City get homecoming win over Big Rapids

REED CITY — The Reed City football team killed two birds with one stone in Friday’s 58-22 Homecoming Game win over Big Rapids.

The Coyotes improved to 6-0 to qualify for the playoffs and defeated the Cardinals for the ninth consecutive season to do so.

“It was a big rivalry game,” head coach Monty Price said. “The kids played hard. I was very proud of their performance and play as a team.”

It was a “Price Party” in the first quarter as Phillip Jones-Price tallied three rushing touchdowns in the frame and Jackson Price added a touchdown run of his own put the Coyotes up 28-0.

The Cardinals were up 36-0 before a 21-yard Jace Gray rushing touchdown put the Cardinals on the board and made it a 36-6 game.

The Coyotes would tack on two more scores to go up 52-6 at the half.

Reed City finished with 402 rushing yards on 31 carries.

Newly-crowned Homecoming King Jones-Price had 13 carries for 202 yards and four touchdowns.

Payton Hansen finished with six carries for 121 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Jackson Price went 3 of 5 passing for 83 yards and a touchdown pass. Anthony Pelton had one reception for 58 yards and one touchdown.

Stephen Shewan and Cody S. Kailing tallied five tackles, apiece and Hansen added five tackles and one interception and Nick Douglas added two tackles and one interception.

For Big Rapids, quarterback Jayden Mason led the team with 118 yards on 12 carries was 2 of 7 passing for 67 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

Nate Smith had 10 carries for 26 yards and one touchdown and Jace Gray had 25 yards on five carries and one touchdown. Gray caught a 39-yard touchdown pass and Jackob Martinson had one catch for 28 yards.

On defense, Logan Youngs, Dorian Martin, and Adam Bollman had four tackles apiece.

Reed City (6-0, 5-0) faces Central Montcalm on the road next week and Big Rapids (3-3, 2-3) hosts Chippewa Hills.
