Reed City football seniors set for final regular season game

REED CITY — Many Reed City seniors will be playing their final regular-season game Friday at McBain.

But seniors like Shawn Miller, a defensive tackle, will be hoping the Coyotes will follow that with a long and prosperous postseason.

It’s his second varsity season. He said he improved a lot from a year ago.

“I’m a lot quicker, a lot stronger,” Miller, who participated in a lot of summer football activity, said.

A key turning point in the season was the fourth game against a strong Grant team that scored on the first drive. But the Tigers didn’t score the rest of the way, and the Coyotes took the win.

“We stepped it up and we got better,” Miller said.

He was also on last season’s team that won the Central State Activities Association Gold Division title and lost in the district finals to eventual Division 5 state champion Grand Rapids West Catholic.

The Coyotes, 8-0, last week outright clinched their sixth straight CSAA Gold title.

“I believe we’re just as good this year,” Miller said. The newcomers to the team this season, including many sophomores, “are doing pretty good,” he added.
