Reed City falls in quarterfinals of Big Rapids Invitational

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids and Reed City fell in the quarterfinal round of the Big Rapids volleyball tournament on Saturday.

The Cardinals lost to Ludington 18-25, 25-21, 16-14 in the single-bracket elimination round, while Reed City fell to Midland Bullock Creek 25-20, 25-16.

Reed City split with Lakeview 22-25, 25-23, and lost to Bullock Creek 25-19, 25-16 in pool play. The Coyotes beat Frankfort 25-9, 25-11 to get into the quarterfinals.

“I thought at times we played well,” Reed City coach Don Patterson said. “At times we played like we’re young, which we are. We continued to improve. Our passing at times looked good. At times it struggled. It’s the same with serving. Defensively, we’re starting to round into shape, but are still a little ways off.”

Bullock Creek served tough against his team, Patterson said.

“They took us out of the offense we wanted to do,” he said. “We have to pass better against someone that serves that tough.”

For the Coyotes, Allysa Olds had three aces and 31 digs, Meghan Borst 16 kills, 17 digs and two blocks; Madalynn Brown four aces and 22 digs, Jordyn Storch 15 aces, 16 digs, three kills and 59 assists, Sidni Rushford 13 digs, and 18 kills; Madelin Mora two blocks, three digs and four kills, Allison Obermier six digs and seven kills, Alexis Van Eck five digs and two kills and Alison Duddles two blocks, one dig and 13 kills.

Reed City is at Cadillac on Saturday.
