File photoLEROY – Anthony Kiaunis was second overall (17 minutes, 42.70 seconds) and August Rohde third (17:42.70) to lead Reed City to a championship effort in Saturday’s Cecil Burch Memorial Invitational on Saturday.
Reed City boys were first in the seven-team field with 44 points while Mason County Eastern was second at 66 and Pine River seventh at 167.
Nathan Wing of MCE won it at 17:35.80.
Also for Reed City, Ryan Allen was sixth (18:03.80), Ty Kailing was ninth (18:26.20) and Aaron Allen 24th (19:47.90).
“Anthony and Gus continue to push each other and lead the way for us," Reed City coach Rich Saladin said. "Our top four, including Ryan and Ty, are so consistent. Aaron Allen had another strong run in the No. 5 spot."
Reed City’s Nora Smores was first for the girls in (21:43.20) while Clara Smoes was sixth (23:06.90), Carly Carlson 18th (24:44.80), Sahara Davis was 29th (25:53.80) and Makayla Watkins 31st (25:56.60).
“Nora Smoes won the girl’s race for our second straight invitational (Evart)," Saladin said. "Clara Smoes and Carly Carlson also medaled today with strong runs. Sahara Davis and Makayla Watkins, both freshmen, stepped up today."
Kingsley was first with 47 in the seven-team field followed by Reed City (81), Lake City (89), Mason County Eastern (94), McBain (105) Kalkaska (106) and Pine River (155).
“It was a perfect morning to run with cool temps," Saladin said. "This is a challenging course with some nice rolling hills but some soft sand areas too. We did what we wanted in competing as a team. We have our next CSAA race on Tuesday at Lakeview. This was a good primer for that."
Amanda Hill was 17th for Pine River (24:22.30).
