GRANT — Cody Kailing scored nine points while Brandon Evans added seven in Friday’s Central State Activities Association Gold Division boys basketball 69-34 loss for Reed City (3-11, 3-8) to Grant.

Reed City trailed 32-16 at halftime.

“That was a rough one,” Reed City coach JJ Eads said. “We came out a little flat, I guess, and couldn’t get going. Give Grant credit. They made big shots on us repeatedly.”

Kailing scored 14 points while Karsten Koopman had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Zach Saez added nine points for Reed City (3-10) in a 58-54 loss to Clare (7-5) on Feb. 7.

“That was a good ballgame,” Eads said. “I thought the kids played well together. We out-rebounded them which I was proud of because they’re bigger. We do what we have to do to win the game. We have to keep a lead down the stretch.”

The Coyotes host Chippewa Hills on Friday. They were scheduled to play Tri County at home on Tuesday.

“Chippewa Hills is a rivalry game,” Eads said. “It was a pretty close game there (in January) at the end (before Chippewa Hills won it).”
