REMUS — Seth McKenzie scored 22 points while Kurt Ray added 20 to lead the Warriors (3-2, 2-2) over Reed City (0-5, 0-3) on Friday in Central State Activities Association Gold Division action 74-55.

"We got off to a really good start,” Chippewa Hills coach Eric McArthur said. “The second quarter we went into a little bit of a funk. In the second half we played very well.”

The Warriors led 16-5 after the first quarter, 28-24 at halftime and 45-37 after the third quarter. They had a 29-18 scoring advantage in the fourth.

"We got ourselves in a big hole early,” Reed City JJ Eads said. “Then we battled back. We tied it up one time in third. We got into foul trouble and had guys foul out. Chippewa Hills went to the line the whole second half. We couldn’t get the bucket when we needed to.”

Trent Sturgell scored 19 points for Reed City while Zac Saez had nine.

"It was another rough fourth quarter for us,” Eads said. “They shot 18 free throws in the fourth.”

DJ Lowery had eight points for the Warriors.

"Defensively, the boys were hustling around and we did what we needed to do in the defensive end,” McArthur said. “We shot a lot of free throws.”

Chippewa Hills was 15-of-18 in free throws in the fourth quarter.

Reed City was scheduled to be home on Wednesday with Big Rapids, and will be at Central Montcalm on Friday.
