Reed City boys enter final week of regular season

HESPERIA — Reed City’s boys basketball team survived a scare with a 63-61 overtime win over Hesperia Saturday night.

It was 59-59 after regulation.

Kyle Wright had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Coyotes.

“According to our stats, we had 80 shots at the basket and they had 50, which sounds a little lopsided,” said Reed City coach Dean McGuire. “Their percentage with which they shot the ball was higher than ours. It was a very frustrating night shooting the ball. We were 32 percent from the field. You shoot 32 percent from the field, you’re probably not going to win very often. We missed threes, we missed layups and everything you could imagine, we missed.”

Reed City was home for a CSAA game Tuesday night against Big Rapids and is home Thursday with White Cloud. The regular season ends at Fremont for nonleague action on Friday.

“We have to play one game at a time,” McGuire said. “It’s a big week for our seniors. Anytime you play Big Rapids, it’s a big game for us. It’s senior night Thursday and we finish against a talented Fremont team. For our seniors it’s a big week. It’s a big week for our whole team. This is the time of year for seniors to step up and determine how long they want to play.”

The Coyotes picked up a lopsided 68-36 win over Central Montcalm on the road on Tuesday night, Feb. 18.

Chad Samuels led the Coyotes with 18 points as Kyle Wright put up 16 and Dean Eichenberg contributed 13.

The Coyotes were 15-2 overall and 14-2 entering action this week in the Central State Activities Association (CSAA).

Next week, Reed City is hosting the Class B districts. The Coyotes play either Big Rapids or Harrison on March 5 in a semifinal round game.
