Reed City boys bid for district title
REED CITY — Reed City’s boys basketball team enters this week with a 12-8 record with the hope of being 2-0 in the next few days.
The Coyotes play in the Class B district in Clare Wednesday night against Chippewa Hills. The winner plays in the final Friday night.
The Coyotes have twice defeated Chippewa Hills this season
“It’s tough when two teams are evenly matched to sweep them three games,” Reed City coach Dean McGuire said. “Obviously, they’ll be prepared. They know us well, we know them well. I expect a very competitive game Wednesday.”
Making the key plays at the end will be critical, McGuire said.
“They have three really good scorers,” McGuire said. “We’ll have to do a good job of containing them. We like our chances if we can do that.”
It could be a wide open district.
“Big Rapids is playing well right now,” McGuire said. “Chippewa Hills beat Big Rapids earlier this year and Big Rapids beat both of us. It’s wide open. If we play well, I like our chances. It should be fun.”
Reed City is 12-8.
“Every coach in America right now says that theywant their team peaking at this point,” McGuire said. “Nolan Patterson is coming on right now. Chris Barton has led us all year. Nolan and Chris, we’ll hang our hat with those two. We have other supporting cast we’re counting on. I like our focus and I like our demeanor at practice.”
