Reed City boys beat Harrison

REED CITY - It was the final regular-season game for the Reed City boys basketball Coyotes on the road on Tuesday, March 3 with a 52-44 victory over Harrison.

The win sends Reed City into next week's district tournament at 6-14.

Reed City led 14-13 after the first quarter, 23-22 at halftime and trailed 34-33 after the third quarter. The Coyotes outscored Harrison 19-10 in the final eight minutes.

Zac Saez led Reed City with 17 points, followed by Alex Wirgau with 15 points.

Wirgau "sparked us in the third quarter," Reed City coach Jesse Kailing said. "He did a nice job for us."

Lee Ashcroft led Harrison with 10 points.

The Coyotes play at Cadillac on Wednesday in a district semifinal game. They will play the winner of Monday's Ludington (13-7) vs. Benzie Central (9-10). The winner of Wednesday's semifinal goes to the title game on March 13.

Saez continues to lead the Coyotes in scoring.

After a solid game against Chippewa Hills in mid-February, Saez expressed hope the Coyotes were on the right path.

"We just want to keep it going through districts," he said after the Chippewa Hills game.

The Coyote faced a setback when Big Rapids beat them on a Demarcus Lee half-court shot buzzer beater three days after the Chippewa Hills game.

But they're hoping high moments such as the win over Harrison can give them confidence and momentum entering the postseason.
