Reed City, Pine River qualify wrestlers for regional action

REED CITY — Reed City had two wrestlers qualified from the Division 3 district on Saturday at Caro for this weekend’s regional meet at Chippewa Hills.

Alex Brummel (135 pounds) was 3-1 and placed third. Dylan Chrispell (189) placed fourth at 3-2. Wrestlers who finished in the top four advance to the regional. They need to finish in the top four this weekend to advance to the state finals March 3-5 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

“Going into the regional, I looked at the other district coming into the region, and I like both Dylan’s and Alex’s chances of getting into the state tournament,” Reed City coach Roger Steig said. “You have to win two before you lose two. Alex Brummel had a good day. The seeding didn’t go the way we thought it should, but he made up for it. In the consolation round, he pinned the No. 1 seed from Chippewa Hills.”

Pine River qualifies 10

LEROY — Pine River wrestled in the Division 4 district at Farwell and qualified 10 wrestlers for the regional this Saturday at Rogers City.

Dylan Stephens (103)  and Andrew Park (112) were first, Jacob Roberts (119) third, Nathan Park (119) first, Tucker Fansler (130) and Joe Rigling (160) second, Raden Holmes (171) and Josh Jackson (189) first, Brian McCurry (215) second and Andrew Frisbie (285) third.

“We had two in some weight classes,” Pine River coach Tim Jones said. “To get 10 boys through was a good day for us. Overall, we were happy.”

Wrestlers need to finish in the top four this weekend to advance to the state finals March 3-5 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
