Reed City 0-2 at weekend tournament

KALKASKA — Reed City lost 6-5 to Lake Leelanau St. Mary in the first game of the Traverse City Invitational on Saturday.

Jules Griffith took the loss, allowing six runs on five hits and one walk and striking out four. Devin Willard and Ally Yarger had two hits apiece, while Bailey Brummel, Katianna Hansen and Alyssa Olds had one hit apiece. Olds had an inside-the-park home run.

Reed City lost the second game 12-7 to Traverse City St. Francis. Sidni Rushford and Kamryn Myers had two hits apiece. Griffin, Hansen and Olds had one hit apiece.

The Coyotes lost a pair of nonleague games  12-1 and 9-4 to Kalkaska on April 28.

For the day, Kamryn Myers had three hits and Ally Yarger added two.

“(Last) week, we played strong competition,” Reed City coach Roger Steig said. “We have a young group of girls. We’re excited to be going into the month of May. I don’t think our team, is too far away from being a strong club.”

The Coyotes resume Central State Activities Association play on at Big Rapids on Friday. They are at the Pine River Invitational on Saturday.
