HOWARD CITY – It was a winning night for Reed City basketball on Friday.

Reed City 79, Tri County 40

HOWARD CITY – Reed City improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the CSAA Gold with this Friday win. It was 41-19 at halftime.

“We played hard,” Reed City coach Steve Ernst said. “I’m always happy for a road win.”

Seth Jackson scored 15 points while Spencer Hansen had 14 Canyon Reed 13, Isiah Moore 11 and Max Hammond 10.

Reed City plays at White Cloud on Tuesday.

Kent City 60, Morley Stanwood 48

MORLEY – Morley Stanwood was led by Devin Garbow with 18 points and Brandon Lintemuth with 10 in this Friday loss to Kent City.

The Mohawks fell to 0-2 in the CSAA Silver and 2-2 overall. They will play at Central Montcalm on Jan. 4.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Reed City 41, Tri County 36

HOWARD CITY – Paige Lofquist scored 11 points while Christina Malakanich had eight in Reed City’s Friday CSAA win while Kenzie Shoemaker had six points.

Reed City trailed 14-11 after the first quarter but led 22-21 at halftime. Reed City was up 35-28 after the third quarter.

“It was the best game we’ve put together all season,” Reed City coach Tim  Beilfuss said. “We  put a lot of pressure on their guards up front. It caused some turnovers by them and resulted in us getting easy baskets which is what we need to do

“It was a total team effort. We got  into foul trouble in the first half. We had people like Kenzie Shoemaker and Alex Stein and Rylie Shafer come off the bench and give us some good minutes. Overall I was happy with effort we got from the kids.”

Reed City is 1-4 and 1-1 in conference. The Coyotes are home on Tuesday with White Cloud.

Evart 56, Pine River 40

LEROY – Evart prevailed over Pine River in Highland Conference action on Friday

Evart led 11-10 after the first quarter. The Bucks were up 25-20 at halftime. Evart had a 46-30 lead after the third quarter.

“We had a bad third quarter,” Bucks coach Paula Justin said. “From there we played them pretty equal. We played good until the third quarter.”

Madi Sparks had 12 points and eight rebounds plus three assists for the Bucks. Hailey Wanstead had eight points. Olivia Fisher had five rebounds.

Evart was led by Addy Gray with 17 points and Skylar Baumgardner with 16.

The Bucks play on Jan. 3 at Lakeview.
