LEROY — Raden Holmes was at Pine River during the holiday break watching Bucks’ sporting events, but also reflecting on what so far has been a successful wrestling debut on the NCAA Division III level with Olivet College.

He recently returned with the Comets from a tournament in Virigina.

Holmes was an all-state wrestler at Pine River and played a key role in the team’s rise to Division 4 state semifinalist status.

At Olivet, Holmes has started out 4-9 at 197 pounds as a freshman.

“It’s a lot different than high school,” he said. “It’s a lot more serious a lot more upbeat. The all-around competition is better. There’s nothing to get used to. It changes every day.”

Opponents have included Adrian and Trine on the Division III level.

Wrestling practices basically started for Holmes in August when classes began. Action began in November. He’s hoping to keep improving and have a winning record as a freshman.

Holmes was also a successful football and baseball player for Pine River.
