REED CITY – Basketball season is under way and for Reed City Area Public Schools the season brings more than shooting hoops.

The high school’s Dance Team provides the halftime entertainment at various home games. Team advisor, Ashley Bregg, returns for her third year along with the help of G'ne Holt, to choreograph dances performed. Seniors Heather Huss, Sarah Sheldon, Ciera Leonard , juniors; Tristin Hartley and Miranda Battle; and sophomores Alison Schermerhorn, Natalie Baughan and Madilyn Allen have all been part of the dance team in previous years. They are joined by newcomer, Olivia Lawson, a freshman. Practices started several weeks ago for the team along with some fundraising activities, including a booth at the Evergreen Festival craft show and Celebrity Server night at Mr. Pibbs in Leroy. Their hard work payed off as they entertained the crowd at last week’s girls varsity game at RCHS with their new outfits in sparkling red and black school colors. Rocking to “Pound the Alarm” by Nicki Minaj, the girls showed off their dance talent in a hip hop routine. “There were a few glitches for our first dance, but they’ve been working hard and they’ll be ready for next Friday”, Holt said following the performance. Come cheer on the Coyotes this season and check more performances by the RCHS Dance Team including a special kickline routine for the holidays.
