Pritchard set for his second varsity basketball season

EVART — Cody Pritchard is among three Evart juniors hoping to use a season of varsity experience to the Wildcats’ advantage this winter.

Pritchard, Trevin Ladd and Danny Griffin were on the varsity as sophomores a year ago.

Evart opened its season with a 64-44 win over Montabella on Monday. The Wildcats are home against Central Montcalm on Friday.

Pritchard made his varsity debut last season.

“It was all right,” he said. “It was a big step, a difference. It took some time to get comfortable. It’s comfortable now.”

Pritchard, like most of his teammates, made the transition from the end of football season to basketball. Practices started on Nov.16.

Last year, his role was playing “down low, being big, about the same this year,” the Evart small forward said, adding that rebounding should be a strength.

The Wildcats have had various preseason scrimmages. Players are familiar with each other from football, which also is a benefit, Pritchard indicated.

Evart is looking to improve from a 4-17 season last year.

‘We have to work hard,” Pritchard said, adding that he hopes to work on shooting and dribbling. “I’ll work on some outside shots.”
