Pritchard enjoying impressive freshman season for Evart track

EVART — Cody Pritchard has been providing valuable points for the Evart Wildcat boys track team this season in various events including the long jump, 800 relay, 400 relay and 100 dash.

The 100 dash and 400 relay have been his best events. His best time in the 100 has been 12-flat and he was hoping for 11.7 before the season ends. He’s been scoring key points in the long jump. His best has been 17-8 and he was hoping for 18 before the season ends.

Both the 400 and 800 relay teams placed second in the regionals and will advance to the state finals May 31.

But not every meet goes the way one would hope.

“Not very good,” is how Pritchard described his meet May 13 at home against Pine River and Manton.

But it changed a few days later in the regionals with his two relay teams taking second, Pritchard was ninth in 17-7 1/2.

He’s only a freshman but Pritchard has been happy the way he’s performing for Evart.

“It’s going pretty good,” he said.

He figures he’s met his expectations.

In the 100, “I get off to a good start,” Pritchard indicated, but he’s looking for a stronger finish.

Pritchard indicated his speed has been a strength in the long jump and he’s working on his jumps from off the board. He added that the team has been strong in all of his events.

The Wildcats were third in the MITCA state meet May 24 and are in the MHSAA state finals May 31 at Hudsonville.
