Pine River wrestling places fourth

MARQUETTE — Pine River’s wrestling team was fourth among 23 schools at the Marquette Challenge on Saturday in the Upper Peninsula. Gaylord took first place, Polaski, Wis., second and Grandville third.

For the Bucks, Tyler Signor (119) was fifth, Jacob Roberts (125) was sixth, Andrew Park (130) second, Brock Nelson (135) fourth, Tucker Fansler (140) sixth, Justin Cole (145) second, Joe Rigling (171) third and Raden Holmes (189) third.

”It was a very good performance,” Pine River coach Tim Jones said. “There were several preseason ranked teams that were there. To wind up in fourth place was a successful day for us.”

Pine River has a team tournament Dec. 28 at Montrose.

”For Andrew Park and Justin Cole to make it to the finals in that kind of competition and end up in second is a big accomplishment,” Jones said.


Manton 63, Pine River 45

MANTON — Pine River dropped this Highland Conference game on Friday to Manton.

The Rangers shot the ball extremely well against his team, Pine River coach Brian Goodenow indicated.

Mason Powell and Hunter Esiline had 10 points apiece for Pine River.

A game last Wednesday with Beal City was snowed out and rescheduled for Jan. 9 at Pine River.

The schedule resumes with road games Jan. 3 at Harrison, Jan. 5 at McBain and Jan. 11 with Marion. The next home game is Jan. 13 with McBain Northern Michigan Christian.
