Pine River wrestlers win at Reed City Invitational
REED CITY — Pine River prevailed with an outstanding performance to take first place in Saturday’s Reed City Invitational.
The Bucks scored 204 1/2 points compared to 173 points for second-place Big Rapids. The tournament was scored on an individual wrestler’s format.
Kyle Nixon at 125 pounds and Abel Langworthy at 130, plus Mitch Kelsey at 135 and Larry Kissinger at 145 pounds took first place.
Cason Rawson was third at 152, Elliott VanDrummel, Maverick Martin and Joe Miller fourth at 112, 140 and 171, and Justin Seaman and Kyle Charles fifth at 160 and 285.
“We haven’t been at an individual tournament in awhile,” said Pine River coach Tim Jones. “The boys in the finals came through.”
Reed City was seventh and had some outstanding performances as the host team.
Matt McGahey at 103 and Adam Kehr at 135 took second place. Matt McDonald at 285 and Devin Ward at 125 placed third.
Reed City netted sixth places from Patrick Jobes at 119, Devin Micek at 135, Travis French at 171 and Aaron French at 215.
“Matt McGahey had an outstanding tournament for us getting into the finals,” said Reed City coach Roger Steig. “Devin Ward placed third. I was happy with his performance.”
Reed City is at Mason County Central on Wednesday and wrestles Saturday at Hesperia in the Central State Activities Association (CSAA) tournament.
Pine River is at Sanford-Meridian on Wednesday and is at Manistee for its conference tournament on Saturday.
