Pine River wrestlers second at Alma

LEROY — Pine River’s wrestling team was second Saturday at the Alma Invitational.

The Bucks started against Carson City-Crystal and won 44-36 and also defeated Mount Pleasant 45-24, St. Charles 72-12, and Caledonia 42-28 and then lost in the final to Williamston 39-24.

Undefeated wrestlers were Dillon Stevens (103 pounds), Jacob Roberts (119), Andrew Park (125), Raden Holmes (171) and Josh Jackson (189)

Going 4-1 were Tyler Signor (112), Tucker Fansler (130) Joe Rigling (160).

“I wasn’t for sure we were ready for Carson City,” Pine River coach Tim Jones said. “They’re a perennial Division 4 power. The boys wrestled well coming off the (holiday) vacation. We need to stay healthy and maintain our conditioning and hopefully make an upward climb toward the end of the season.”

At home on Jan. 6, the Bucks were 2-0 with wins over Frankfort (69-6) and Benzie Central (63-9).

Posting 2-0 records for Pine River were Stevens, Signor, Roberts, Andrew Park, Nathan Park, Fansler, Rigling, Holmes, Jackson and Brian McCurry (215).

Nathan Park, the season team leader in wins, picked up his 100th career win.

“Raden Holmes has been wrestling really well lately,” Jones said. “Hats off to Raden for being such a dominant force in the lineup. Tucker Fansler had a strong showing Saturday. He’s starting to wrestle tough.”

The Bucks are 7-2.

Pine River wrestled on Jan. 2 at the St. Louis Invitational and finished second to the home team.

Jackson, Stevens, Andrew and Nathan Park placed first, Fansler and Holmes third, McCurry fourth and Andrew Frisbie (285), Signor and Rigling fifth.

Pine River is at Forest Area on Thursday and at Forest Hills Eastern on Saturday.
