LEROY — Pine River’s wrestling team was 3-2 at the Forest Hills Eastern Invitational on Saturday. The Bucks defeated Forest Hills Eastern 60-14, Grand Rapids Catholic Central 59-12 and Sturgis 45-33.

The Bucks then lost to Clinton 33-31 and to Allendale 38-29.

Going 5-0 for the Bucks, who are 21-4 overall, were Andrew Park (135), Raden Holmes (189) and Jacob Roberts (125). Going 4-1 were Brock Nelson (140), Justin Cole (145), Joe Rigling (171) and Brian McCurry (215).

Tucker Fansler notched his 100th career win over the weekend.

“It was a good all day long,” Pine River coach Tim Jones said, “particularly the last of match of the day We had taken a team to Clinton. It was tough to get them all up. Allendale is a tough team. We were down from the defeat to Clinton. Most of the boys and girls gave everything they could. One (individual) match is a determining factor.

“Clinton may be a team we see later in the season so we know what to expect.”

Park “had an outstanding weekend,” Jones said. “He and Cole showed a lot of poise this weekend.”

Pine River wrestled at Benzie Central on Wednesday. The Bucks beat Benzie Central 59-6 and Frankfort 54-6. All Pine River wrestlers were 2-0.

Pine River is at Manton on Wednesday and at Mio on Saturday.

Reed City eighth


GLADWIN — Reed City’s wrestling team placed eighth at the Gladwin Invitational going 2-3 for the day. Wins were over Standish 48-27 and Pine River 51-24. Losses were to Lakeville 51-24, Gladwin 69-12 and Chippewa Hills 49-21.

Individuals going 4-1 were Brett Walker at 189 pounds and Alex Brummel (145). Wrestlers going 3-2 were Ryan Simmons (112), Heaven Hurley (130), Jayson Johnson (140) and Austin Fowler (171). Abby Helsel was 2-1 at 135. Other wrestlers with wins were Mark White (125), Hunter Brahman (135), Mason Bush (152) and Ryan Neal (215).

Reed City is at Chippewa Hills on Wednesday.
