LEROY — Pine River was 2-3-1 at the McBain Invitational on Saturday in volleyball action.

The Bucks defeated Manton 25-19, 25-16, topped McBain 25-20, 25-23. split with Roscommon 25-23, 17-25 and lost to Ludington 25-14, 25-21; -lost to Kingsley 25-21, 25-15 and bowed to McBain 25-22, 25-12.

For Pine River, KayLee Goodman had 23 digs and 23 kills; Julie Justin had 23 kills and 21 digs; Logan Powell had 64 assists and 20 digs; Ally Stokely added 23 digs and Livy Vanderhoof had 19 digs.

“We fought hard,” Pine River coach Jana Dennis said. “Three-fourth’s of the team was sick and not even 60 percent. Having said that, they fought hard and gave everything they had. The girls came back and won numerous times even though being down by quite a bit. In the end the girls fought hard but just ran out of steam. I am very proud of the little victories we had throughout the day.”

Pine River’s overall record is 12-17-6.

On Sept. 20, the Bucks traveled to Lake City and won 25-22, 20-25, 25-20,15-25, 15-11.

For Pine River Goodman had 11 digs, 11 kills and five blocks; Justin had 14 digs and five kills; Livy Vanderhoof led defensively with 18 digs and added five aces and Powell had 26 assists.

“We played up and down but found the will to win in the end,” Dennis said. “We had many small moments to celebrate and many learning opportunities.”
