Pine River volleyball senior hoping for strong finish

LEROY  — Rachel Motzer and other seniors are nearing the end of their careers as Pine River volleyball players and are hoping it turns out to be a happy ending.

Motzer has been playing rightside hitter for the Bucks.

“We’ve been communicating better,” Motzer said, adding that her season has been “average, but better than last year. I’m hitting the ball accurate.”

The Bucks play at the Highland Conference tournament this weekend at McBain and host the Class C districts next week. The Bucks have a semifinal match on Nov. 6.

“We’ve had a few troubles but we’ve overcome them,” Motzer said. “It was getting used to each other.”

Motzer has been focusing on getting better movement on the court.

The Bucks lost some key seniors from last season but have had their share of key 12th-graders on this year’s squad.

“They’ve improved a lot,” Motzer said.

The Bucks are likely to face state power Beal City in that semifinal match Nov. 6. They lost to the Aggies earlier in the season. Beal City has been Class D in the past but will be Class C this season in the tournament.

“We will need better communication and higher intensity this time,” Motzer said.
