OSCODA — Pine River is sending 13 wrestlers to the Division 4 regional on Saturday at Cheboygan by virtue of their top four performances last weekend at Oscoda in the district tournament. The individual regional is Saturday at Rogers City.

Taking first for the Bucks were: Jacob Roberts (125), Andrew Park (130), Justin Cole (140), Joe Rigling (160), Raden Holmes (189) and Brian McCurry (215).

Finishing second for the Bucks were, Holly Bailor (103), Dylan Stephans (112), Tyler Signor (119), Brock Nelson (135) and Tim Rizor (171).

Taking third was Malachi Holmes (152).

Finishing fourth was Tucker Fansler (145).

“It was a very good day,” Pine River coach Tim Jones said. “I was pleased to have that many go through. You always want more, but have to be happy with what you’ve got. That’s a good number going into Wednesday’s team meet.

“Raden Holmes and McCurry had really good matches,’ Jones said. “McCurry had a tight match. Holmes upset the first seed from Oscoda, a boy who had only three losses.”

Pine River wrestles Frankfort at home in a regional semifinal at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Roscommon wrestles Oscoda in the other semifinal.

“We’ve seen Frankfort in our conference so we know what to expect from them,” Jones said. “We’re not sure with Oscoda or Roscommon.”
