Pine River third baseman enjoying solid year for Bucks

LEROY —  Taylor Warner has been making key contributions for the Pine River softball team this season as a senior.

She’s been on the Pine River varsity 2 1/2 seasons.

“I think both (of the past two seasons) are like the same,” Warner said. “I feel I’ve learned something new every game.”

As a senior, “I feel like I have to be a leader,” she said, “and let people know. Last year, I kind of sat back.”

Warner has played third base for the Bucks the past two seasons.

She played shortstop with the junior varsity, and second base in other areas.

Third base “is harder than second, but it’s about the same as short,” Warner said. “You have to pay attention and don’t fall asleep.”

Her throw to first base, “lately has been pretty good,” Warner said. “You have to be fast (but have good form).”

Warner has been working at being consistent in fielding ground balls.

“You have to get (the ball) in the center,” she said.

Warner has been hitting the ball similar to last year.

“I’ve just have to practice more,” she said, “and swing all the way through. I stop a lot.”

The Bucks “have been doing all right, we have a lot going for us,” Warner said. “A  good attitude is huge. We have to hit the ball. If you don’t you can’t score.”

Pine River’s season ended at the district tourney last weekend.
