GRANT — Pine River’s softball team made its debut under new coach Mike Nelson on March 21, and scored a 16-7 victory against Grant.

KayLee Goodman had two hits and two RBIs, and Bekah Dean added three hits while Taylor Hill added one double and one triple.

Emily Triber had two hits and one RBI. Maddie Martin had two hits and one double. Emma Whitley had two doubles.

The Bucks finished with 25 total hits and Whitley was the winning pitcher.

“For as cold as it was, we hit the ball fairly well,” Nelson said. “I was quite happy. It looked like our first time out. We had some jitters and some errors right off the bat. All-in-all, it was a pretty good outing for us.”

Nelson replaced Laura Mumby who decided to resign at the end of the season to spend more time with her family.

Nelson had assisted Mumby eight years before stepping down to take a break.

“I decided I missed it more than I thought and got back into it,” Nelson said.
