Pine River sweeps Manistee

LEROY — Pine River defeated Manistee 16-1 in the first game of a non-league doubleheader Monday in three innings of play and won 6-2 in game two in six innings.

Mason Powell had four hits, two home runs and eight RBIs total in the doubleheader. Masa Ogawa had two hits, one home run and three RBIs in game one and five strikeouts and one earned run in three innings on the mound in game two.

Luke Hill was the winning pitcher in game one, striking out five batters while allowing one hit and zero runs.

“We played pretty solid,” head coach Shawn Ruppert said. “The pitchers did a great job throwing strikes and Mason had a great game at the plate driving runs in.”

The Bucks were at Gladwin on April 13 and won 20-11 in the opener.

Ogawa had three hits and three RBIs. Bradley Holmes had two hits and two RBIs. Luke Hill, Raden Holmes, Powell and Andrew Park had two hits and an RBI. Matt Stone and Tanner Shimel had hits.

Powell was the winning pitcher after two innings of relief.

The Bucks lost the second game 7-1. Bradley Holmes had a double.

Pine River (4-2) is home Wednesday against Big Rapids.

Pine River defeated Crossroads 17-0 in a three-inning game to open the doubleheader on April 12 and took the second game 12-1 in five innings.

Hill went 1 2/3 innings to take the win in the opener, striking out three, walking none and allowing one hit.

Park and Steve Hilkowski had two hits and an RBI. Powell had a triple and four RBIs. Ogawa, Bradley Holmes and Shimel had an RBI.

Raden Holmes went 1 2/3 innings, striking out three walking one and allowing no hits in the second game. Ogawa had two hits and two RBIs. Holmes had a single and two RBIs. Nelson, Powell and Lane Ruppert also had RBI.
