LEROY — Pine River returns five players for its volleyball season that starts Saturday at the Traverse City Invitational.

“We’ve been running tryouts and going through drills and working though who is trying for what positions,” Coach Jana Dennis said last week.

Players returning include Tailor Charles (libero), KayLee Goodman (outside hitter), Kyla Johnson (middle hitter), Julie Justin, (outside hitter) and Chelsey TerBurgh (backside).

“I have some new ones that will be filling up spots,” Dennis said.

Defense will be a strength, she indicated.

“I think once we get the kinks worked out, communication will be good,” Dennis said. “We’re always going to play aggressive no matter what.”

The Bucks have some potential but it will be a younger team than last season, she noted.

“We are young but with a lot of potential with the girls out here,” Dennis said. “We have a lot of hard workers. Once we get the kinks worked out, we’ll be (OK).”

Pine River has its home tournament Sept. 12 and Dennis noted there will be around 15 teams.

“It used to be around eight teams,” she said.
