LEROY — Pine River sports teams are having a busy summer.

New football coach Terry Martin has been keep busy with his team

Last week, the Bucks finished up a football camp at Central Montcalm.

Every Monday and Thursday we work out and do some drills here at the school,” Martin said. “We’re hosting our own team camp July 29, 30, 31. Those are our big dates.”

Martin added that the Bucks are participating in passing camps at Cadillac on Tuesdays in July.

“We’ve had good numbers so far,” Martin said. “We had 29 kids that went down with us to team camp.”

Bucks wrestling coach Tim Jones said his team last weekend was going to St. Ignace for team camp. The dates of July 26-27 are set for a team camps at Pine River.

“This year it didn’t work out for the end of June so we’ll do it the end of July,” he said.

He hinted it would be similar to last year when Michigan State wrestlers participated.

Pine River baseball-coach Shawn Ruppert said JV-aged payers will be playing during the summer.

Ruppert is also coaching the varsity girls who will be having a summer program.

“Most of our stuff is in July,” Ruppert said. “We’re doing some shootouts and camps. Sometimes we have open gym on Sundays but mostly it’s the scrimmages. We’re not doing a lot before the Fourth of July.”
