Pine River sophomore wrestler off to impressive start

LEROY — Tucker Fansler is a sophomore at 130 pounds for Pine River and has been getting the job done in his first varsity season.

He's been wrestling for several years and is off to a 5-2 start. He was 2-0 at a home quad.

"It's been pretty good," he said. "There have been some rough matches here and there. The goal for my season is getting close as possible to my (career) 100 wins."

Fansler said his strengths are riding top with a nearside chop. He wants to improve on his shots.

Coming into this season, Fansler did a lot of work on his wrestling.

"I go to camps during the summer," he said,

Fansler acknowledged with the depth on the Pine River team, featuring 35 wrestlers, there's competition for spots on a constant basis. The regular season helps the Bucks get ready for the postseason, he added. Practices are always intense.

"I'm trying to get as good as possible," he said, adding the goal as a team "is to go as far as we can. (The key is) teamwork, never give up, give 120 percent all the time."

The program has been solid for a long time and wrestlers take it seriously, Fansler added.

"There's no goofing around," he smiled.
