Pine River sophomore runner off to strong start
LEROY — Holly Bailor is off to a solid start for Pine River’s cross country team as a sophomore.
She ran cross country last season and has been in the sport since the seventh grade. She was in the 23-minute range as a freshman.
“It was pretty good,” she said of last season, adding that she was able to catch on to varsity cross country. “I did some 5Ks (during the offseason).”
With that in mind, Bailor came into the season confident she would show some improvement and be a better runner.
“It’s good so far,” she said. “My best time has been 24:21.”
Bailor figures she’s running better because she’s “stronger and smarter.” She’s looking forward to competing in the Highland Conference and regional meets. She also wants her times to get down to the 23s.
“It will be practicing more, running more and pushing myself,” she said, adding that a “good finish” is her strength. But she wants her finish to be stronger.
The Pine River girls are looking strong right now.
“A lot of the girls are doing really well,” Bailor said.
The Bucks will be home Saturday for the Cecil Burch Pine River Invitational.
