EVART — Both teams were hungry for wins Friday night when Pine River and Evart clashed in a Highland Conference softball doubleheader.

The Bucks rolled in the opener with seven runs in the first inning, three in both the second and third, and 14 in the fourth. The game ended after four innings.
Alexis Stokely was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out four in four innings. She helped her own cause with a two-run homer, plus a single and double.
Morgan Kanouse, whose two-run homer in the top of the fourth made it a 20-2 lead, also had two singles.

Also for Pine River Jenna Johnson had two singles and a double and Jenny Wickens a single and two triples.
Pine River continued to add up the runs in the nightcap with Kanouse’s sacrifice fly the bottom of the third making it 13-1. Johnson’s bases walk made it 15-1. Evart scored in the top of the fourth and Pine River scored two in the bottom of the fourth. Stokely scored the 17th run on a wild pitch to end the game.
Bressler, Kendra Foster and Martin had hits during the twinbill for Evart.
Brooke Pennington was the winning pitcher.
“Jenny Wickens hit the ball hard tonight and did a good job,” Pine River coach Laura Mumby said. “Alexis Stokely had some good hits. Our pitchers came and threw strikes and our defense played solid behind them.”
Pine River was 6-17 overall after this game. Evart fell to 2-12.
“They just have to keep working,” Evart coach Jeff Bressler said. “We’re pretty young.”
