LEROY – Pine River’s girls softball season ended with a 15-22 record after falling to Evart in the title game of the district on Friday.

Pine River had 15 hits.

“We hit the ball well against Reed City and made some fine defensive plays,” Pine River coach Mike Nelson said. “The fifth inning, it was 9-5 and Reed City had the bases loaded. Madi Parks came in and stuck out two of Reed City’s batters. That was a big deal for our game.”

In the finals, Pine River lost 12-1 to Evart. Amanda Hill was the losing pitcher. Sparks pitched in relief.

Hill had two hits with a home run. Whitley, Sparks and Holmes had hits.

“We knew Evart was one of the better teams around with an outstanding pitcher,” Nelson said. “We also knew we’d have to play perfect defense to have a chance. We didn’t. We had a rough first inning. We gave up four unearned runs. Evart players played well and hit the ball very well.”

Pine River had four seniors with Kim Hill, Whitley, Holmes and Mylie Hilkowski.
