LEROY — A productive Local Area Teams (LAT) League season ends this week for the Pine River Bucks.

Doubleheaders were scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday to put the summer softball season to a close.

Pine River had a strong doubleheader showing last week at Bristol Fields against Manton, losing the first game 10-8, but taking the second 4-1.

In the first game, Courtney Smith was the losing pitcher, allowing two hits and 10 walks while fanning four and hitting two batters. Dana Hills went two innings, striking out two, walking three and giving up one hit.

Smith had a triple and double with three RBIs, followed by Nichole Brown with a single and two RBIs and Ally Stokely with a single.

In the second game, Kourtney Brock went a solid five innings, allowing two hits and two walks while fanning three.

“Kourtney did a good job, she did (Tuesday night) too,” Pine River coach Laura Mumby said. “She only had two walks (Wednesday night) and only had a couple (Tuesday).”

Saige Watson had a single and an RBI. Chelsey TerBurgh added a single.

Mumby acknowledged that the summer games are giving her information on players that she’ll work with next spring. Most games, Pine River has had around 15 players.

Fundamentals are being emphasized, “base running too,” Mumby said. “Being able to pick up signs, kind of some basic stuff. We’re still getting some good times in. I preach little things to my kids all the time during the season so we work on that stuff here.”
