Pine River soccer team falls to Lakeview
LEROY — Pine River’s soccer team trailed only 4-3 at halftime on Monday but lost to Lakeview, 10-3, in non-league soccer action.
Lucas Harris, Colten Rawson and Anna Lindquist scored for Pine River. Douglas Connor handled most of the goalkeeper duties.
“They played well,” Pine River coach Jenny Hoaglund said of her team’s first half. “They played like a team.”
For Lakeview, Jonathan Hansen had four goals while Nick Ruvalcaba scored three, Spencer Kamp had two and Nate Davis netted one.
Tristan Taylor was goalkeeper for Lakeview.
“At halftime, we talked about playing our position and passing together as a team and staying our position,” Lakeview coach Chris Smith said. “They made better shots on goals.”
Pine River lost, 4-0, last Thursday at Clare. Clare scored a second before the first half ended for a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers scored three more goals in the second half.
On Friday, the Bucks lost, 6-1, to Houghton Lake. Junior Kelly Witherspoon led the Bucks with 11 blocks while senior Cole Gingrich and Zac Underhill had eight.
Robyn Peppey, Cole Gingrich, Colten Rawson and Erin Millen all had shots on goal while sophomore Anna Lindquist scored the only goal for the Bucks off a pass from Steve Hilkowski. Lucas Harris was the goalie with 27 saves.
Pine River plays at Houghton Lake on Thursday.
