LEROY — Pine River soccer coach Jenny Hoaglund is getting ready for a season that starts Aug. 14.

The season starts at Mason County Eastern Aug. 23.

The summer was highlighted by a three-day camp in mid-July.

Hoaglund said 18 high school athletes, all from Pine River, were in attendance.

“We went over a lot of general soccer skills,” Hoaglund said. “It was getting the kids in the routine of having a soccer ball at their feet. It was pretty basic stuff.”

Hoaglund said a few performers played some travel soccer during the summer.

CROSS COUNTRY

Coach Ross Vrieze of Pine River said various runners have been working out to get ready for the season.

“A handful have run 5Ks,” Vrieze said. “A week ago a group met to run a little bit.”

The first meet is Aug. 23 at Benzie Central.

“The season started later with the calendar,” Vrieze said. “We won’t have a lot of time to train and condition before the meets start this year.”
